Las Cabras Kindergarten – History

A project to put in a patio in front of the school is pending. See history below.

The original project is now completed!! For a full history read below.

The project is a partnership between the parents, Rotarians, Los Amigos de La Peñita, local businesses and government.  It is located in the neighborhood of Las Cabras in the village of La Colonia a close neighbor to La Peñita de Jaltemba in the state of Nayarit, Mexico.  The name of the school is actually Jardin de Niños Juan Escutia but it has come to be known as the Las Cabras Kinder.

After investing close to US$20,000

The old school looked like this:

A tar paper shack located on borrowed land.

Following is the full history of the project in pictures (most recent first).

December 23, 2009 – Mill Bay (BC Canada) Rotarians  Doug, Andrew and Clyde bring a donation of 17,000 pesos for the project and tour the old and new location of the kindergarten.

December 16, 2009  – Rotarians Viky and Johan meet with the parents committee of the school to plan the move to the newly acquired land.  We will  improve on the temporary facility in the new location by having a larger cement pad, block walls and lockable door .  We need about US$8,000 immediately  to make the move and then another approximately US$20,000 to finish the job.

December 10, 2009:  The parents want to move the school to take possession of the land.  However to begin construction we need proof that competing interests have been resolved.

April 2009 — Another owner starts construction on the site which the kindergarten has been given by the local authorities.  This is quite common in Mexico when dealing with the Ejido ( cooperative lands).
