Entry and Departure Permit
If you need to leave Mexico while you are making an application for a change in immigration or residency status (FM2, FM3, landed immigrant and citizenship) you will need to apply for a Entry and Departure Permit ( Permiso de Salida y Regreso). We understand that this covers all situations where you do not have your normal documentation because it is in the application process. The permit has a start date and is valid for reentry any time within 60 days.
It is best to avoid the need for this permit by planning to be in Mexico for the time required to complete your immigration application process.

Hi folks, went thru the FM3 process last week – Jan 12, 2012. After paying the initial $500 peso and producing the bank receipt, I was issued a form showing that Immigration had accepted my paperwork. This included a ‘numero unico de tramite’ and password to check on the status of the application. I was also advised that this document would act as my ‘permit’ until such time that the FM3 was issued.
