Beans

Beans are frijoles (plural) when they are on your plate but if you go to buy a sack of them the are frijol (singular). Go figure.
Dead simple to make at home and way tastier that canned.
Buy the beans. There are a bewildering variety but don´t worry; they are all great.
Check for small stones and discard broken beans. Wash and soak over night with enough water to cover and again as much.
Bring to a solid boil, cover and simmer for several hours until tender.
Serve as a side dish to almost anything (not all that great with chocolate).
