Serape – January 23 – 2011

The Serape has it’s own website coming along but this issue gave a few additional problems so here it is so folks can link to it. Reproduced by permission of the author, of course.

GREETINGS SERAPE READERSClick Me! Well, it seems like we are back to the old way of doing things until some editing issues are sorted out with the program I was using.Click Me!
Things have been busy in the park – last weekend there was a bolo ball tournament (or whatever you call that game)
With some pretty high stake trophies
And swanky cars as prizes.
Bob Gillespie even won a coveted “Peter Heater”.
We have had visits from jungle residents,
(you`d think that Boa would get tired of being removed), we have gone on the annual Ladies Shopping Trip to Tonala, where we once again filled the bus to overflowing, and on Tuesdays and Saturdays, when the vegetable truck comes, we have a mini Tiangus, it`s fun to see who or what shows up.
Volleyball is still going strong
And preparations are well underway for the PIG ROAST – with the Mardi Gras theme.Click Me!Click Me!Click Me! The Cancer de Mama clinic is
February 4,5,6, so that is in full swing as well.
FROM THE MAILBAG

We received generous contributions from residents of LaPenita RV Park and its managers Carole and Grant as well as donations of funds and materials from other sources. A Special thanks to Neil and Joan Brint for the work they did in coordinating donations within the RV Park.

A special thanks to the mothers of the kindergarten students for the wonderful meal they prepared for us at the Open House.
The next project for the kindergarten will be shelving to store supplies now that the classroom can be locked up.

Did we have a good time in Tonola? Just ask any of us lucky enough to be on the trip.  It was great!
The planning is a lot of work and takes time, bargaining, etc. Linda works very hard to get everything organized and running smoothly. We get a super deal and it is such fun. For many of us it is a yearly event and we plan what to buy each year and then we get there and find all kinds of new things! Click Me!
Thank you so much Linda and Gayle. You made it a great time. It was so nice to have the same bus driver, too.

A Huge Thank You to All Volunteers for All You Do.

The park is filling up and it is apparent that things are running very smoothly. There are so many activities and events that everyone is busy, fit and happy.

It is difficult to single out people because there are so many involved in so many things but here is a try. Please excuse me if I miss anyone. Thank you to you, too. You know who you are.

Linda McCluskey does the Serape newsletter which you are reading now.

She does a marvelous job of keeping track of events and news. She has even taken the time to learn the new programs for the website. Linda also does the Stretch and Strength classes which are very popular. She also keeps track of the park totes and records of Parties. A huge thank you is due to her.

Bob Joslin (Jos) does the Kinetics 3 days per week. Those that take those classes will attest to the great job he does and how good they feel. He also stepped forward to do the Pig Roast.

Karen Stranahan and helpers for the  Line Dancing 3 mornings a week and being  there Hamburger Sunday to get everyone going.

Joe Kranjc is always there! All the Music for Hamburger Sunday and any other events, Friday Movies, Potlucks, Pig Roast, Christmas Dinner and any other event he is asked to do. What a dead place we would be without the music.

Judy Kranjc is everywhere. She tirelessly works all year on Cancer de Mama, decorating for anything and volunteering wherever needed.

Sol and Carol Ginsberg, Joel and Louise Goodman and George and Liz Pomeroy stepped forward to do hamburger night when there was no one. They did a fantastic job and handed the reins back to Keith and Pat Cutshall when they arrived. This is a huge job that requires commitment and expertise. It involves doing all the shopping, planning, getting volunteers to help, clean up, etc.  We have a lot of fun on Hamburger Night and really appreciate it. We also appreciate that the profits have supported things like heating the pool and cement at the pool, as well as the roof on the kitchen and tables and chairs. They have also supported the Fran Milski Education Fund and the La Penita Park Fund.

Again, a huge THANK YOU.

Lori McDonald never stops mixing those Margaritas. We would be a dry bunch without her. She is at Taco Tuesday  and Hamburger Sunday every week and she doesn’t even drink Tequila!

Neil and Joan Brint took on the pool cover and solar heating which helps everyone who uses the pool especially Aquasize and Volleyball. It is warm!

Vince and Maureen Croswell are there whenever they are needed. Dr. Mo has donated much time and advice to our aches and pains . Vince volunteers both his and Mo’s time for the Pig Roast, Hamburgers and many other things.

Dave and Maruca Dinsmore work for the park in many ways. David does the Volleyball Tournament on Boxing Day and designs and prints great collector T-shirts. He is there with designs for window stickers and has donated them. Maruca co chairs the Cancer de Mama and volunteers endless hours for that and translating, and helping people in the park.

Murray and Geri Dryburgh have the Internet working like a charm. It enables us to have Internet at our rigs and a telephone home. Murray has spent many hours tweaking the system and working out the bugs. Geri ha spent lots of time helping people with their specific computer problems.

Bob and Charlotte Gillespie along with Barb and Fred Varty running the Washer Toss and Horse Races, is an activity many enjoy.

Santa Claus and Mrs Claus, Peter and Helene–what an asset, our own Santa and Helene stepping forward to do Christmas dinner for 2010 and 2011. Thank you.

There are lots of other things, Happy Hours, Poker, Bridge, Zumba, Walking.

Then there are all that go out into the community with school supplies, building, Christmas presents, medical supplies and many more things.

Our Staff — Antonio, Tacho, Karen, Alex, Luis, Satu, Felix, Jose, Daniel all help whenever asked.

I can go on for pages. The point is–this is all greatly appreciated by Grant and I, the staff and all the people in the park. The activities and events that go on in the park are what keeps most of us here. We are a community, a family and friends. You make our winter get-a-way a home.  Thank you to each and every one of you and to all people I have missed. You are all greatly appreciated. Next time you see any volunteers please give them a Thank you and a Hug. Hug yourself, too.

GRANT AND CAROLE

PAINTED BUNTING for those who were asking.

Got Possums eating your pet food, Boa`s in your backyard, Iquanas eating your flowers and plants, Geckos invading your rig??  Well folks – we live in the jungle, and sometimes the jungle comes visiting.  Please do not do anything to harm or maime these animals.  Bring in your pet food at night, put wire around your plants, encourage the geckos to stay outside, and call the Boa removers to re-locate the Boa(s).

THE SERAPE WEBSITE

Will still be available, and if possible, this Serape will be located there as well as in your inbox.  CURRENT PARK EVENTS will still be updated as needed – so check it out to see what`s going on.  We will get back to normal as soon as possible.  Thank you for your patience.Click Me!

Question: Is sex Work? Click Me!
A U.S.Marine Colonel was about to start the morning briefing to his
Staff. While waiting for the coffee machine to finish brewing, the

Colonel decided to pose a question to all assembled. He explained
That his wife had been a bit frisky the night before and he failed to
Get his usual amount of sound sleep. He posed the question of just
How much of sex was “work” and how much of it was “pleasure?”

A Major chimed in with 75%-25% in favor of work.

A Captain said it was 50%-50%.

A lieutenant responded with 25%-75% in favor of pleasure, depending upon
His state of inebriation at the time.

There being no consensus, the colonel turned to the PFC who was in
Charge of making the coffee and asked for HIS opinion?

Without any hesitation, the young PFC responded, “Sir, it has to be 100%
Pleasure.

The colonel was surprised and as you might guess, asked why?

“Well, sir, if there was any work involved, the officers would have me
Doing it for them.”

The room fell silent.

God Bless the enlisted man.
