There are several forums and Facebook groups that act like forums serving our area. The article was about the Jalapeño Jaltemba Bay Forum (JJF) and how it has grown to closely approximate activity we used to have on Tom's board but since you bring it up I would be interested to know what your statistics for the New Jaltemba Bay Forum (NJBF) are. On April 30, 2011 the two new forums (JJF and NJBF) met in terms of total number of posts at 2,932. Since that time the NJBF has grown to about 6,600 and the JJF to about 8,600. To be more exact: When I collected my stats on May 10th the spread between the two forums was 1,951 posts. The numbers are displayed on both forums for anyone to check.

In regard to bringing search traffic to the area I think you miss the point. Before you deleted the content of the old JBF if one searched for almost anything related to Jaltemba Bay and many things related to Mexico in general Google would give a link (sometimes several links) to a discussion on the old JBF. Deleting the content stopped that. The point I tried to make was that some of that damage has been corrected by the popularity and Google respect that other websites like the Jalapeño have managed to gain but it has still not replaced the respect the old board had because of it's long history and the dominance of Boardhost.com.

I am aware that the old JBF website is still there but now it only directs traffic to Jaltemba Bay Life. One should not confuse "traffic to the area" with traffic to the Jaltemba Bay Life website. It used to be a place where links to a variety of content was welcomed.

As a justification for replacing the old board archival information is in my humble opinion one of the least effective. There are lots of ways to solve that problem of archiving information. You may have noticed that people ask the same question regardless of the fact that it has been discussed many times before. The whole idea of a forum is to have CURRENT information.

If anyone would like to take a peak at the past there are still forums out there which run that old software quite successfully. Like the Manzanilla one: http://members5.boardhost.com/lamanzanilla/index.html

[...] Huamuchiles are odd fruits. To eat them you must remove the white pith of the seed from the pod, and then the seed from the pith; the pith is the fruit. They are like a cross between marshmallows and Styrofoam. There are two kinds, sweet and bitter. The sweet are simply munched as a snack, and they’re addictive, the bitter are used to make atole. Huamuchiles are well-loved treats and I often see families on the camino (path) behind my house, riding burros, carrying cubetas (buckets), dragging chicoles on their way to gather huamuchiles and spend an afternoon in the campo (country). huamuchiles [...]

Johan, I appreciate your investigative nature and am always intrigued by this kind of information. However, some of your statements about the Jaltemba Bay Folk Forum are not quite accurate. Let me clarify...

First, you state "The blue line on the graph is a measure of activity on other forums in the area." Being that we only have two forums in our area, this would indicate to your readers that you are most likely referring to the Jaltemba Bay Folk Forum. If this is the case, your readers should be aware that these numbers do not reflect our site statistics. If you are referring to another forum(s), I might suggest that you explain which ones.

Second, you state that "The loss of the old board is still unfortunate since it directed so much search traffic to our area." Perahaps you are unaware that the old Jaltemba Bay Folk Forum (i.e. Tom's Board) is still active and is still directing traffic to our area via Jaltemba Bay Life and the new Jaltemba Bay Folk Forum.

Thirdly, you state "Since all content of the old forum was deleted...". While some of the posts were deleted, the majority of them simply "fell off" because of age. The software used for the old board is antiquated and does not have archival ability, which is why we had no choice but to use a different operating system for the new Jaltemba Bay Folk Forum (just like you did for JJ). I believe the software company used for the old board has recently made some changes and updates to their software, so this issue may be resolved for newer users.

I hope this information is helpful to you and your readers.

Ken and I have known Angel since back in 2004 and he is a real card! Years ago he gave us one of his pop bottle reels but we never did catch anything - guess he forgot to show us where he got the good bait. In April we gave him a Rapella filleting knife we brought from home. Jaltemba Bay has many interesting people and Angel is just one of them.

Hello Brad,

The name of the hotel is El Tarasco. It is located right off the Main Plaza, withing walking distance to the Naitonal Park. If you do a Google Search, you will be able to find more info about the Hotel. We negotiated a lower rate, because we stayed there three nights. The Resturant in the Hotel is also excellent. Please feel free to write us, if you have any other questions. Our e-mail is jeffhollymx@yahoo.com I have photos taken of the Hotel, if you are interested. Holly Trujillo
