Side trips
There are some interesting place to visit while staying in The Jaltemba Bay area.
Very Local: 2 to 6 hours
Petroglyphs at Alta Vista: Ancient religious site, 2 hour drive and 1 hour hike
Piedra Bola – ancient village site just a 15 minute drive from downtown La Peñita.
Lo de Marcos: Beach and plaza just 15 minutes south
Into the hills: For an exploration of our jungle setting.
Tortuga Beach:
Compostela: Seat of our municipal government with an historic main square.
Day trips:
Vallarta Botanical Gardens located a half hour south of Puerto Vallarta.
San Sebastian del Oeste: We recommend as an over night trip but it can be done as a longish day trip.
San Blas:
Over Night and Further Afield:
San Sebastian del Oeste: A well preserved mining town in the mountains east of Puerto Vallarta.
Morelia and the Monarch Butterflies: A several day trip.
Guadalajara, Tonela, Tlaquepaque
Cancun – If you have never been to the Yucatan region a trip to Cancun may be just what the thing.

When I visited 4 years ago the petroglyph area was not a good place for wheelchairs. Perhaps someone with more recent experience can comment.
Compostela has good access for wheelchairs.
Joe,
Do you think this area is accessible by someone in a wheelchair. We have off road wheels on a regular chair and also have a beach chair with large balloon tires. Is this a wide or narrow path, smooth or rocky terrain?
Thanks
The information on the Petroglyphs at Altavista is appriciated. Defently a trip to take to show my grandchildren. Thanks
