The volunteer day at the kindergarten project was the biggest turnout for any Los Amigos project since we renovated the park in La Peñita 4 years ago. The objective for the day was to plant concrete posts around the project. You have to get them in the ground early because they don’t grow very fast.
Some 60 people were in the group photo including the almost too cute kids that will move into the classroom on January 3rd when they return from Christmas holidays.
Here they are a bit closer up because people like to be able to see their faces.
The los Amigos scholarship students came out about 20 strong. They mixed cement
hauled it
and posts
Opps those may be a bit too old to be on scholarship but then in Mexico anything is possible. Three members of the newly elected Citizen’s Action Committee were in attendance. The more Mexican looking one is Rafa our local butcher in Colonia Pescadores and member of the committee. He is also one of the organizers of the Bazar this Saturday in Echo Park.
The students are also working on a video project to explain what Los Amigos is all about so cameras were rolling.
Mama’s raked up a small dust storm
and dug post holes.
Also in attendance was the volunteer English teacher. She is organizing a Posada for the kids which will be held at this location at 11 am on December 23rd. That would be a good opportunity to drop by and visit the project and get some Mexican Santa photos.
We managed to cement in place all the posts along two sides of the property.
The bathrooms were donated by a group of Vancouver Island Rotary clubs.
Sincere thanks to all who volunteered, and donated or participated in any Los Amigos event. Your donations made it all possible. Use this link to see all the folks who have donated to the fencing project: Official sponsors – Las Ladrilleras Kinder. Contact Johan at JaltembJal@gmail.com to donate and put your name on the list. We are still about a thousand dollars short of the cost of putting a chain link fencing around the whole project.
