Yesterday’s election of local officials in Guayabitos was won by the purple slate (Planilla Morada).

That makes Blanca Veronica (Vero) Ramirez Villaseñor judge (juez auxiliar)

and Jose Jesus (Chuy) Gutierrez Rodriguez president of the Citizen’s Action Committee.

I met up with Vero at her home in Guaybitos this morning shown her with here (on the left) with her sister.

She told me they had gained 202 votes while their nearest rival the yellow slate had 139 votes and the white slate finished with 106.

Asked what her team would be working toward she said she wanted to see garbage cans on the streets of Guayabitos and better streets and sewers for the outlying neighborhoods.

I recognized Veronica and her mom Doña Maria Guadalupe as the organizers of the beach vendors from a meeting last year so I asked them how that subject was progressing. Doña Lupe told me the main problem is that there are more vendors without licenses than there are those who have them and that needed to be enforced. She also said that the initiative to move the vendors to a central location had gone nowhere.

Congratulations to all who participated in the process and best of luck to the newly elected officials.

Not running for office this year but considering whether to do that or start a career in advertising is this little neighbourhood darling.
